We are currently seeking a highly-motivated Clinical Engineering Technician to join our manufacturing team in Sandymount, Dublin.

Overview of the Post

The Clinical Engineering Technicians manufacture high-quality wheelchair special seating supports. They work in partnership with Special Seating Clinicians and under the supervision of senior technical staff. Clinical Engineering Technicians contribute to ongoing transition from traditional manufacturing methods to advanced scanning & digital production methods (CNC milling/3D printing).

Clinical Engineering Technicians perform a frontline role, interacting directly with wheelchair users and their families. They transform product concepts into finished products, which are then delivered to the end-user. Devices must conform to regulatory requirements & departmental work procedures, and be produced in the most efficient & productive manner possible. 

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate good planning and organisational skills. The Clinical Engineering Technician puts the people who use our services at the centre of what they do - completing production jobs efficiently and within agreed timescales. 

Overview of duties and responsibilities

The Clinical Engineering Technician produces devices to a high standard in the most productive & efficient way possible.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
•    Product design
•    Product manufacture
•    Quality Management
•    Participation in clinical appointments
•    Product repairs
•    Stock management  

The successful candidate will have

Essential Criteria

•    NFQ Level 7 qualification in a relevant field of engineering, or NFQ Level 6 qualification in manufacturing, metal fabrication, toolmaking, carpentry or equivalent with a significant level of appropriate experience. This position is open to experienced Clinical Engineering Technicians / Registered Clinical Technologists. (Applicants with less experience are also encouraged to apply, and may be considered with modified job description & pay scale).
•    It is critically important for the post-holder to be able to demonstrate their productivity & efficiency levels on an ongoing basis. Applicants will need to be able to demonstrate this capacity.
•    Workshop & machine tools training, and manufacturing workshop experience to include experience using machine tools and handheld power tools. A practical test will form part of the recruitment process.
•    Understanding of, and commitment to adhere to, line management structure and willingness to adhere to organisational policies & procedures
•    Ability to demonstrate effectiveness of verbal & written communication skills, illustrating two-way communications in relation to challenging situations
•    Ability to provide examples demonstrating the capacity to deliver high-quality results where attention to detail is a key component of the work
•    Demonstrable technical competence – a hands-on practical assessment will form part of the selection process
•    Flexibility, and a demonstrable ability to work efficiently - both on own initiative and as part of a team
•    Experience in the use of computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel
•    Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development
•    Experience of adherence to daily or weekly reporting obligations 
•    Proven track record in problem-solving
•    Full, clean driving licence

Desirable Criteria

•    Demonstrable experience of contributing to service improvement initiatives in previous roles
•    Understanding of work in the disability sector and of the role of Enable Ireland & SeatTech
•    Experience of assisting in the ongoing professional formation of other staff members
•    Experience in the design or development of CAD/CAM techniques, specifically CNC 
•    Eligibility to be registered as ‘Engineering Technician’ with Engineers Ireland 
•    Experience of using CAD/CAM techniques to assist in production processes
•    Biomedical Engineering or equivalent qualification to NFQ Level 8
•    Demonstrable commitment to ongoing professional formation
•    Understanding of the intricacies of interdisciplinary work 
•    Training & experience in clinical/biomedical applications
•    Capacity to negotiate solutions within a team setting
•    Stock management experience
