For many adults living with a disability, the lack of practical and financial support to enable them to live independently is significant barrier to social inclusion and independence. For these adults and their families, uncertainty about future living options outside of the family home is a huge source of concern and anxiety. Everybody has the right to live independently in line with their choice, and in support of this goal, we work with adult service users to identify the type of independent living options they would like and the supports that would be needed to achieve that. Having identified the needs of individual adults we then work on an application for secure funding from the HSE and relevant local authorities. Substantial funding will be required in order to realise these proposals and to ensure that independent living becomes a reality rather than an aspiration for these individuals.
