Hubert Brablik

Young man smiles in garden with thumbs up

Hubert Brablik is 19 years old and lives in Limerick City. Hubert has Cerebral Palsy and a learning disability. He has attended Enable Ireland Day Respite Service in Limerick since he was 12 years old.  His mother, Edyta, spoke to us about the impact Enable Ireland has had on Hubert’s life.

“Hubert is a really smiley happy person. He was born in Poland and then we moved to Limerick when he was six. When he was 12 years old he joined Enable Ireland’s service for day respite. I am so glad that he has had a chance to go to this service. He gets to do lots of activities that he would never have had a chance to do otherwise. Things like swimming, wall climbing, horse riding. He is so active when he is there and they push him to try new things. He’s had the opportunity to take part in activities that even his sister hasn’t done!

I don’t mind driving him to these different activities because I know how much he gets out of them.   Being in that service has really opened his eyes up to all the things he is able to do. The physiotherapy and the speech and language therapy has also made a huge difference to Hubert.

He loves all the activities and he really loves to be able to meet and do things with other children. Teenagers with disabilities often find it hard to make friends. Or their friends from school live really far away, so they can’t meet up easily. So they really need this time to be with each other, to be playing together and having fun together. They all love it and then when they meet up again they are so happy because they remember the fun they had last time.

Every child with a disability should be able to go to a service like this one. It really is amazing!”
