Michael O'Dowd new poetry for World Book Day 2023

On World Book Day we want to highlight Enable Ireland service owner, Michael O’Dowd. Michael is a poet from Thurles in Co. Tipperary who has lived in Limerick for the last 11 years.

When Michael first came to Enable Ireland he began training and achieved FETAC level 3 certification in Independent Living Skills, Drama and many other courses over the years. He also played Boccia all over Ireland with his late friend, Gerard.

Michael first started creating poetry after experiencing depression and used it as a method to channel his thoughts and emotions. With the help of Enable Ireland service owners and staff, a Thursday morning Poetry Club was formed and continues to this day, allowing participants a way to express their creative side in a loving and warm environment.

Since becoming a poet, Michael has released three books of his own poems.

He said: “This is something I would personally recommend for those who experience depression. It’s the best tool and I absolutely love creating poetry and meeting new people! Writing poetry about my family, surroundings and how I see the world through my eyes.”

Michael is currently promoting his new book of poetry titled “Sure The Duck With It – I’ll Do Another Few Poems”

The book is E12.50 and available in O’Mahony’s Booksellers and The Crescent Book Shop in the Crescent Shopping Centre, both in Limerick.
