Enable Ireland Virtual Service Centre for Adults with Microsoft Teams

Listen back to Cian McCormack’s report for RTE’s Morning Ireland on Enable Ireland’s Virtual Service Centre for Adults. The reports feature interviews with Luke, an adult service user attending the service, and his mum Joyce. Joyce says the virtual service is a lifesaver for her son and brings much-needed structure and activities into Luke’s day.

Enable Ireland staff and Microsoft volunteers responded quickly to the closure of our service centres due to Covid-19. For many adults with disabilities, our centres were their connection to their community and their friends. The pandemic meant that they were facing long spells of isolation and loneliness and lack of routine to their days at home. Using technology, creativity and hard work, the team has created a Virtual Service Centre.

Adults with disabilities can now participate in activities at their local service centre from the comfort and safety of their own home - yoga, art, Zumba, bingo, physiotherapy, quizzes, theater and cooking are just some of them! The adults get to see their friends and meet new people from other service centres.

The initial pilot in Dublin has been hugely successful, and the service will be extended nationally. It is a great example of how service delivery has evolved and adapted to the current reality of life during Covid-19.
