Enable Ireland’s Beyond Boundaries Garden Removes Barriers and Expands Boundaries at Bloom!

Rory Barnes (age 4) and Lilly Starrs Murray (age 6) from Enable Ireland children’s services joined with Hailey Bowes from Enable Ireland adult services to unveil Enable Ireland’s Beyond Boundaries garden in association with Solus light bulbs today. This is the second year that Enable Ireland has entered a show garden inspired by its mission to maximise independence, choice and inclusion for the 5,500 children and adults with disabilities using their services across Ireland.
“Our ‘Beyond Boundaries’ garden supports our vision for making Ireland a more inclusive place for everyone. We are delighted to have the support of our sponsors, including Solus, in making this garden possible and we look forward to spreading our message of removing barriers and expanding boundaries for people with disabilities at Bloom again this year”, commented Fionnuala O’Donovan, Enable Ireland CEO.
The garden features smooth, flowing pathways, a ‘living wall’ and raised beds allowing for easy access for gardeners whether they are standing or sitting, young or old. Glass wind chimes combined with lush, scented planting helps to create an inclusive sensory garden experience enjoyable to all.
Enable Ireland we are using their Show Garden entry to showcase some innovative ways technology can be used to make their garden a more inclusive experience for every visitor regardless of ability. They have used 3D printing technology to create a Tactile Garden Guide for people with visual impairments. It demonstrates how you can cost effectively use technology to provide information in an alternative way and make the garden more accessible. They have also created an immersive media experience of their garden to bring Bloom to everyone who can’t make it to the festival. 360 3D video and photography will bring this year’s Bloom garden to the widest number of people allowing it to be enjoyed beyond the boundaries of the festival.
The ‘Beyond Boundaries’ garden was designed by the Belfast-based designer, Linda McKeown. Linda combines plants with exciting materials to achieve simple, contemporary form in the garden and is delighted to be staging her third show garden at Bloom since 2013.
After Bloom, elements of the Garden will be re-used in Enable Ireland services and elements will be sold in our Garden & Gift Store in Sandymount, Dublin 4.
Enable Ireland’s ‘Beyond Boundaries’ Garden in association with Solus is kindly sponsored by Solus and supported by Caragh Nurseries, Cuprinol, Living Walls, Moore Concrete, Aviva, Willis Towers Watson, Allianz, RSM and Noyek.
The Enable Ireland Garden & Gift Store is located on Sandymount Avenue, Dublin 4 and stocks quality gardening and gift products. 100% of profits from the store go towards supporting Enable Ireland’s disability services. The Garden and Gift store look forward to meeting new and existing customers at their retail space at Bloom Stand G92.
