We currently have an exciting opportunity for a number of Part-time and Relief Support workers within Enable Ireland Cork Adult Services (various locations) in Cork.

The Role: 

• To provide support to adult service users to enable them to participate in their community, increase their own personal independence, achieve person centred goals and facilitate inclusion. 
• The support worker will provide practical, personal and social support to the individuals and groups they work with.
• Must be flexible regarding working hours (afternoons, evening & Saturday work).

Key Responsibilities:

• Supporting groups with planning and implementation of weekly schedules.
• Working in partnership with service users to facilitate their active involvement in the development and achievement of personal and group goals.
• Working in line with the national New Directions Policy and Guidelines.
• Working in partnership with service users to enable them to achieve maximum independence, choice and inclusion in their communities.
• Working as part of the staff team contribute to the development and delivery of a variety of programmes which empower service users to be effective in their personal and family lives, in their working lives and in their community and leisure pursuits
• Assisting with personal care, showering, pool changing, session support, escort duties and dealing with any other special needs of service users.
• Be available to escort on transport across the county/city which can include early morning and late afternoons.
• Undergo any training that is specific to supporting the needs of the service users.
• Responsible for general well-being of service users whilst in attendance.
• Report to Adult Services Manager/designate in relation to general maintenance, transport and security.
• Attendance at staff meeting and Support Worker/Team meetings
• Develop, Participate and contribute to the Person Centred Planning and key working Process.
• Participate in and support service users with their therapy/clinical programs including hydrotherapy.
• Participate in sports and leisure programmes.
• Be expected to honour and respect the diverse requirements of both individuals, families and groups using the service
• Work as part of the team within the service, will be reliable and professional in their work
• Respect the confidentiality code at all times
• Follow policies and codes of practice of the organisation
• Be flexible in relation to working arrangements, duties and location
• Work under direction of the Service User and report to the Adult Service Manager or designate as required
• Record workload and maintain required documentation on intervention
• Some positions may require transport provision.  In these cases the applicant must hold a full clean driving license
• Participate in Training and Development
• To ensure the service user filing system is maintained and updated in line with GDPR regulations.

• To adhere to requirements relative to the collection of data in accordance with agreed procedures, and as required with Enable Ireland.

• To participate in the quality assurance activities within the service as required using the EFQM model of quality management
• To participate with all reviews, assessments and record keeping in line with New Directions and Enable Ireland policy in line with New Directions.
• Attend at team meetings and reviews as required
• Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development
• Participate in individual and peer supervision and performance management
• Any other appropriate duties which may be assigned

The successful candidate will have:

Essential Criteria:

• FETAC level 5 or equivalent in care or healthcare qualification.
• Experience providing personal care required
• Experience of supporting service users to achieve their personal goals and Person Centred Plan goals.
• Experience of working effectively as part of a team
• Possess a full clean driving license.
• Demonstrates knowledge of EI mission and core values and in particular adult services
• To demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrate knowledge of disability and of the role of a support worker.
• Knowledge of new directions
• Honour and respect the diverse requirements of both individuals, families and groups using the service
• Ability to manage work load
• Ability to work independently and use own initiative.
• Demonstrate an understanding of person centred planning and community inclusion
• Demonstrate an understanding of adult protection issues and the employee’s responsibilities
• Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. An ability to communicate effectively and to demonstrate good interpersonal skills with service users and co-workers.
• Ability to work flexible hours as required in line with the needs of the service user.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of confidentiality and work to ensure this in all dealings with staff and clients
• Ability to use a computer.

Desirable Criteria:

• Demonstrate an awareness of the rights of people with disabilities
• Experience working with adults with disabilities in the community setting
• Access to own transport.
• Experience in working with service users with a wide range of support needs.
• Ability to work in partnership with service users and where appropriate liaise with parents and carers.
• Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of New Directions.
• Possess a D1 driving licence or be willing obtain one.
