We have an exciting opportunity for a Basic Grade Occupational Therapist  (Part Time Permanent post .5wte) based at our Enable Ireland Children’s Services, Orchard Way, Oakview Village, Tralee, Co. Kerry.

The Role:  The purpose of the role is to work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team to provide skilled Occupational Therapy Service to meet the assessed needs of children, young people and their families.

Overview of Duties & Responsibilities:
• Integrate occupational therapy skills with current occupational therapy theory and relevant supporting evidence based knowledge.
• Facilitate a family centred approach.
• Adhere to the principle of informed consent prior to and throughout interventions.
• Facilitate the service user to make informed decisions re:  occupational therapy interventions.
• Use skilled observations and interviewing, including in complex situations.
• Select, implement and analyse the outcomes of standardised and non- standardised assessments.
• Collaborate skilfully with the service user as appropriate and work in partnership with the service users parent/family/carer) to identify goals, including complex situations.
• Apply clinical reasoning to plan, grade, implement and modify interventions that are outcome based and relevant to the child or young person’s goals.
• Facilitate individual and group interventions in a skilled manner.
• Evaluate and apply outcomes of intervention in collaboration with all stakeholders.
• Ensure that Health & Safety policy and procedures are adhered to at all times.
• Take personal responsibility for own health and safety and report incidents and potential hazards as necessary.
• Respect the confidentiality of all matters learned in relation to the post, service users, other members of staff and the general public.

The successful candidate will have:

Essential Criteria:

Qualifications and Experience

• A recognised validated University Degree or Diploma or an equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy.

• Be eligible to work in the State.

• Be registered with Corú

• Experience of working with children and young people.

• Experience of working with families

Organisational and Professional Knowledge

• Demonstrate a professional reasoning and behaviour with an understanding of the role of the Occupational Therapist.

• Demonstrates knowledge of theory and practice.

• Demonstrate an ability to work as part of an inter and trans disciplinary team.

• Demonstrate a clear understanding of the social model of disability and a Person Centred approach in the delivery of services to people with disabilities.

• Broad knowledge of Enable Ireland services.

• Evidence of commitment to Continuous Professional Development.

Desirable Criteria:

Qualifications and Experience

• One year full time post qualification experience working as an Occupational Therapist.

• Post graduate Occupational Therapy experience of working with children with a disability in a community setting.

• Relevant post graduate experience/training in one or more of the following:

•  Neuro Development Therapy

• Postural Management

• Upper Limb Intervention

• Sensory Integration
