JOB OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Staff Nurse– Permanent, Full-Time (39 hours per week), in our Enable Ireland Cork Adult Services

The Role: 
To provide a safe, homely environment to adults who are visiting Enable Ireland community homes.  To work with the service users to meet their identified needs during their stay.  As a member of the team and through a person centred approach work with services users accessing residential/respite service including the delivery of intimate and personal care, housekeeping and social support.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
• Help create an environment which is home like and which promotes each person’s participation in terms of choice and decision making and in which each person is enabled to reach their highest level of independence.

• Assist in implementing agreed programmes of care for each person, ensuring that each individuals varying needs are met in ways which promote dignity and respect for the person.

• Work with the Service Manager to ensure that each person is enabled to participate in day-to-day activities in the home, and in leisure activities both in the home and in the local community which reflect their choice and interest.

• Work with the Service Manager to help ensure that each person is enabled to carry out therapy, education, etc., in the service.

• Work with the Service Manager to ensure that special equipment is used appropriately and maintained.

• Identify and understand the health and medical needs of each individual as required and ensure their needs are met appropriately.

• Help ensure that a healthy diet is provided, taking into account any special dietary requirements and requests.

• Staff will be expected to display appropriate sensitivity while working closely with families and service users.

• Provide professional skilled nursing if required and appropriate.
• The nurse will work with individual users in a range of settings community settings. At all times the staff will take the lead in ensuring the safety of users

• Provide support and or mentorship to named students and support staff
• Deliver Training to non-nursing staff including but not exclusive to administration of medication and clinical skills.
• Provide clinical input and oversight to the day service and residential house
• Provide relief nursing to the day service as required.

The successful candidate will have:

Essential Criteria:
• Registered Nurse (RGN/RNID) with an Bord Altranais
• Have a minimum of 1 years post registration experience
• Experience of working in a person-centred health or social care setting
• Have such experience as will enable him/her to provide nursing duties as required.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of the role of the nurse in a respite/residential/day service setting.
• Demonstrate an awareness of physical disabilities, and its possible impact on an individual.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the concept of Social Model of service delivery.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the concept of equal opportunities, and how this relates to people with disabilities.
• Demonstrate the importance and rationale for the need for accurate and up to date documentation.
• Demonstrate the understanding and implementation of risk assessments
• Demonstrate an understanding of the regulations 2013 under the 2007 health act which HIQA inspect against.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the HSE safeguarding policy for Vulnerable adults
• Ability to communicate effectively, and to demonstrate good interpersonal skills with service users, co-workers, external agencies, and professional staff.
• Ability to demonstrate good oral, telephone, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to work with service users and co-workers contributing to the development, delivery and evaluation of individual service user plans
Desirable Criteria:
• Possess a full clean driving license. A ‘D’ or ‘D1’ license an advantage or be prepared to obtain a ‘D’ or ‘D1’ license
• Experience of working with adults or children with disabilities desirable.
• Experience of working within a residential/respite setting an advantage.
