JOB OPPORTUNITY

We currently have a number of exciting relief opportunities for Support Workers within Enable Ireland Cork Adult Services.

The Role:  To provide a safe environment to Service Users in Enable Ireland Cork’s Adult Services. To support colleagues in carrying out their duties.
As a member of the team and through a person centred approach work with services users accessing residential/respite service including the delivery of intimate and personal care, housekeeping and social support and other reasonable duties in line with this position.

Overview of Roles and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Adult Services Manager or Designate:

• Providing assistance to adults in areas of personal care including intimate personal care.
• Assist in planning and accompany adults on outings and leisure activities within the local and wider community, including sourcing and arranging community-based activities.
• Help create an environment which promotes each persons participation in terms of choice, decision making and goals, so that each person is enabled to reach their highest level of independence.
• Ensure that each person is enabled to participate in day-to-day activities included at the various locations, in leisure activities (both in the centres and in the local community), which reflect their choice and interest and that that each person is enabled to carry out therapy, education, swimming etc., in the service.
• Assist in implementing agreed programmes of care for each person, ensuring that each individuals varying needs are met in ways which promote dignity and respect for the person.
• Work with the Service Manager to ensure that special equipment is used appropriately and maintained.
• Be familiar with health and medical needs of each individual and ensure these needs are met under the direction of team leader and Registered Nurse where applicable.
• Help ensure that a healthy diet is provided, taking into account any special dietary requirements and requests.
• Support Staff will be expected to display appropriate sensitivity while working closely with families and service users.
• Support service users on swimming and or hydrotherapy sessions in the water.
• Be available as a bus escort as required by the service.

 

The successful candidate will have:
Essential Criteria:

• Minimum Fetac Level 5 course to include module on special needs or Special Needs equivalent course (total 8 modules)
• An understanding of the skills necessary to work as part of a team.
• To demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Flexibility.
• Demonstrate a knowledge of disability and role of a Support Worker.
• To be willing to undertake additional training

Desirable Criteria:
• Basic Computer skills.
• Knowledge of new directions, HIQA standards, Enable Ireland and familiarity with policies and procedures
• Be proficient in Computers in particular Microsoft Suite
