We have an exciting opportunity for a Lifeguard in our Cork Children’s Service on a Specified Purpose, Full-Time (39 hours per week) basis based initially in Ballintemple and then in Curraheen.

The Role: 
To work effectively with staff members in the provision of Hydrotherapy sessions to our child, adolescent and adult service users.   In addition to this you will be required to provide lifeguard supervision during all sessions (both public and private) held within the Enable Ireland pool.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Successful Candidate will be required to:
• Observe & Supervise Swimmers in the Water
• Conduct water quality test monitoring and record keeping
• Respond to any medical / accident/ incident / emergencies situations which may arise
• Assist with crowd control
• Provide customer Relations (be it dealing with service users, their families/ carers, other staff users, hires, membership holders, main centre enquires)
• Maintain high standards of hygiene in the department both in and out of the water and adhere fully to the all hygiene procedures for all areas of the department
• Be responsible for plant Room and Boiler Room Operations, as instructed by Manager
• Be fully acquainted with and follow open up and shut down procedures
• Be fully acquainted with Pool Department Emergency Procedures of a human nature
• Be fully acquainted with Pool Department Emergency Procedures of a mechanical nature
• Be responsible for Key holding / Security
• Assist in the dressing room with service users, if required
• Assist users on deck with use of hoists entering and exiting the water
• Conduct as required, stock control of cleaning products, chemical products, care products, towels as requires
• To participate in training programmes and other developmental needs as identified by Line Managers, Director of Services or Enable Ireland
• Participate in regular supervision
• To adhere to record keeping requirements in accordance with agreed procedures
• To participate in other quality assurance activities within the service
• To attend relevant meetings as required and participate appropriately
• To adhere to practices, policies and procedures as outlined in the Enable Ireland’s Policies & Procedures Manual and Health & Safety  Statement
• To be flexible and supportive of other departments and undertake any other activities as requested by the Support Services Manager or Director of Services


The successful candidate will have:

Essential Criteria:
• Full, up to Date National Pool Lifeguard Qualification or equivalent
• Valid Pool Plant Room Operator’s Qualification
• Valid First Aid Qualification
• Previous Experience of working as a Lifeguard and pool plant room operations. 
• Experience of work alone and also as part of a team
• Experience of working with children and /or adults with disabilities
• Excellent Observation and Emergency Response Skills
• Ability to take instructions, give feedback, seek advice, adhere to company policy, procedures & best practice when and where necessary
• Ability to demonstrate good  communication & interpersonal skills
• Have a positive attitude with disabled users of the facility and their parents / carers
• Ability and willingness to be flexible in approach to work and be responsive to changing demands
Desirable Criteria:
• Previous Manual Handling & Patient Lifting Training
• Ability to demonstrate an solid understanding of Confidentiality, GDPR, Data Protection, FOI and equal opportunities and how it relates to this post
• Good Understanding of Health & Safety, Risk Assessment & Identification, Fire Safety Awareness & Emergency Evacuation Systems
• A solid understanding of Disability Awareness, Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons and Children Protection and Professional Boundaries 
• Reasonable familiarity with use of computers or willingness to learn
