Eating and Drinking

There are a range of solutions available to help people with independent eating and drinking from simple adapted cutlery and delph to high tech switch operated devices. The following are some examples of the range available.

Bendable Utensils and Cutlery

Spoon and fork feature a metal shaft, easily bent to any angle to accommodate reduced range of motion and greatest comfort to the user. The rocker knife cuts with run motion. Utensils have built up rubber handles for comfort and are dishwasher safe.

Lightweight Cutlery

Stainless steel utensils mounted on plastic stems and sealed into light grey foam handles, to give help to those with weak/painful grip. Foam is comfortable to hold and washable.

Large Grip Cutlery

Utensils with soft flexible grip due to ribbing the complete length of the handle for comfortable, nonslip grip. The round handle is a natural fit for those with arthritis, weak grip or neurological impairments.

Winsford Feeder

This product enables people without use of their arms to feed themselves from a plate/bowl at their own speed. Slight head motion on a chin switch activates motorised that fills the spoon, which automatically moves to the mouth. Controlled rotation of bowl allows selection of food. Also feeder is height adjustable, operates on battery/electricity. Includes carry case, spoon, dinner plate, bowl, chin switch, drip pan, battery charger, remote hand/foot control.

Neater Eater

Tailor-made product to suit individual requirements, offering different features. Food is scooped up as the bowl of the spoon comes forward against the turned lip of the plate. The plate can be turned to reach to food and the spoon then lifts up to the mouth. Increases independence and encourages social interaction.

Neater Drinker

Heavy wide based “cup” with lid. Used in conjunction with an angled straw. The straw has a valve attachment, which facilitates a person with poor or weak sucking ability.

Plate surround

A flexible guard can be fitted to ordinary plates to assist with one-handed eating. Three clips attach to the rim and create an inward sloping face to help with food collection and prevent spillage.

Roundup Plate

For children and adults with limited muscle control and coordination. A high inner wall around the circumference helps prevent food from spilling or sliding off the plate. Dishwasher safe.

Cup

Soft rubber air release button on this vacuum- feeding cup makes it possible to drink liquid without raising your head. A simple push of the button releases a small controlled amount of liquid.

Weighted cup with Lid

Mug with extra 8oz of weight to make it easier for individuals with tremors and athetosis to control movement while drinking. Insulates hot or cold liquids. Easy grasp handle and stable wide base, not for microwave/ dishwasher use.

Housekeeping/Home appliances

There are many simple appliances which can be used to make household chores easier and possible to do without assistance. The following are examples of some of the appliances available.

Jug Kettle Tipper

Coated wire cradle that holds most styles of jug kettle and pivots on a raised wire frame by gentle pressure on the handle to assist with pouring. The kettle sits in the cradle and is secured by an elastic strap.

One handed tray

The extra-low centre of gravity and patterned surface reduce the risk of spillage while one carries the tray with one hand. Fold away handle for easy storage.

Adjustable Trolley

Adjustable to suit individual requirements. Large castors for easy manoeuvrability.

Perching stool with back and arms

Sturdy stable stool with luxury padded seats for comfort and support. Height adjustable.

Jar Opener

Fits over lids to give good grip for opening twist-off jar lids.

Bottle Opener and Knob Turner

This versatile device provides a simple and effective method of opening those small tops e.g. drink bottles or medicine containers. It is also excellent for turning knobs.

Jar and Bottle Opener

The flexible steel band clamps around the lid of a jar/bottle and the screw at the end of the handle holds it firmly. The handle also can be used as a lever.

Can Opener

This wall-mounted opener supports the tin and holds it tightly against the blade, so that it can be used one-handed. May be used to open large/small cans simply by adjusting the height of the revolving pedestal.

Grater, Scraper and Spike

Designed for one handed use, this clever workstation is ideal for scraping, grating vegetables and has prongs at one side for holding vegetables firmly for peeling or cutting.

Peeler and Clamp

This handy device clamps to a table or work surface and enables fruit and vegetables to be peeled using only 1 hand.

Easy Grip Utensils

This unique kitchen utensil range has lightweight, contoured handles that are moulded in a soft feel non-slip plastic that gives a firm comfortable grip in either hand.
