Before looking at technology solutions you should first consider the following questions so that nothing gets overlooked and you obtain a good idea what you are looking for.

Questions to consider:

• What tasks or activities do you want to do at home?
• What appliances do you use for these tasks or activities?
• What difficulties do you have with these appliances?

When looking at technology to overcome these difficulties ask the following questions:

• Does the technology suit me?
• Will the technology efficiently allow me to control the appliance?
• Can I get reliable support for the product in the event of failure?
• Are there any efficient low tech options that perform a similar task?
• For portable devices, will the charge last throughout the day?
• Will the solution have a negative impact on others living in the house?
• Are there any safety or security implications regarding the use of the technology, for example could I accidentally unlock external door or turn on cooking facilities?
• What happens in the event of a power failure, can I make a call for assistance and can I exit the house?
