Respite & In Home Support Service

Children and their families / carers require various kinds of social support that add to the quality of family life and social life. Home based family respite appears to have the most approval from parents and is consistent with the thinking on normalisation.

Link Work Service

Enable Ireland Dublin Services is able to provide this support to children through their link work service. Support is provided in the child's home and local community thus enabling their parents and family to have a break. The service is offered to very young children attending Enable Ireland Early Services and Preschool, usually on a one session per week basis.

The service is also offered to school aged children (including those attending the school in Sandymount) and children in main stream education. These older children can avail of the service after school hours (until 5.30 pm) and during school holidays and mid term breaks.

Link Work is offered on a sessional basis (a session is approximately 3 hours). A range of experiences is offered based on age and assessed needs. This can include cinema trips, bowling and attending a sports event. Alternatively, it may be more appropriate to offer the service directly in the child's home.

Respite Breaks

In addition to this type of support, children are also offered respite breaks away from home during the summer and mid term breaks. Staff take children to accessible accommodation at an approved locality. The emphasis is on play and participation in local activities.
