Enable Ireland Kerry Children's Services
Early Year's Groups
Early Years Groups are for children in the Kerry service aged six months to five years. They are facilitated in the centre by an Early Years Educator with inputs from the wider therapy and support team. The aim of the group is to provide therapeutic, early learning and family support services, and to support children to develop their individual strengths and prepare them for participation in community childcare services.
Out of school programmes
Out of School Programmes are for children and young people in the service from the age of four to 18 years. Our family support team offer a range of programmes that include social, sport, therapy activities and learning support.
Our programmes aim to support service users to enhance personal skills, achieve independence, and to access and participate in community programmes and activities.
Sibshops
Sibshops are workshops for children aged 8-16 who are brothers or sisters of children with special health or developmental needs. The aim of the workshop is to enhance the well-being of the children. They offer peer support through facilitated group discussions and fun activities in a relaxed environment. They are provided pending demand and in partnership with other local agencies providing services to children with disabilities. The workshops are run on a monthly basis and have proved to be popular with the children who participated.
Orthotics
An Orthotist visits the Kerry children's centre as required and by appointment. An Orthotist is someone who designs, makes and fits supportive or corrective devices, e.g. splints or braces, to enable a person to function better.
SeatTech Seating Clinic
Many service users have specialised seating and postural management needs that can not be met with ready made seating supports/products and require custom build solutions. To meet this need we run regular seating clinics at Enable Ireland Kerry.
The seating clinic is run in conjunction with Enable Ireland SeatTech which is a specialised seating service that includes a clinical engineer and clinical engineering technician. At the seating clinic the service user team, usually an occupational therapist and physiotherapist, together with the SeatTech team provide assessment, prescriptions, design and manufacture of customised seating solutions to meet the individual seating and postural management needs.
Assistive Technology
A small dedicated Assistive Technology (AT) service is provided at the Kerry Children's Centre for service users as required. Assistive Technology is a term used to describe an item, product, piece of equipment, or service that increases or improves independence for people with a physical impairment. Our aim is to help children and adolescents who use our service to achieve maximum independence.
