On-screen keyboards in Gnome 2.2

1.    Click on or use the arrow keys to move to ‘System’ + ‘Preferences’ + ‘Assistive Technologies’ press ‘Enter’ to open the dialog in Fig 1.

2.    On the ‘Assistive Technologies Preferences’ dialog, the ‘Preferred Applications’ button will be selected on opening.  Click the ‘Preferred Applications’ button or simply press ‘Enter’ to open the dialog in Fig 2.

3.    Click on the ‘Mobility’ dropdown option or press the ‘Tab’ key to enter the ‘Mobility’ dropdown box box and use the arrow keys to select ‘onBoard’. Ensure the ‘Run at start’ box is ticked or press ‘ALT’ + ‘A’ or press ‘Tab’ then ‘SPACE’ to toggle the check box.

4.    Click ‘Close’ or press ‘ALT’ + ‘C’ to return to the ‘Assistive Technologies Preferences’ dialog in Fig 1.

5.    Click the ‘Enable assistive technologies’ box to select this option or press ‘ALT’ + ‘E’.  Finally click on ‘Close and Log Out’ or press ‘ALT’ + ‘L’ to apply the changes and reboot the desktop with the new settings.  If the ‘Close and Log Out’ button is not enabled, click ‘Close’ or press ‘Alt’ + ‘C’. Logoff and Logon to activate the keyboard.
