QMS Sandyford Adult Service Users Group
In Enable Ireland Adult Services Dublin Centre, Quality Mailing Service (QMS) in Sandyford, we have had our hands full for the past while. We have taken part in many events within the community as well as nationally.
Success in Boccia
We had some great success nationally with our boccia team called the Sandyford Steamers. They took part in the All Ireland Boccia League and made it to the finals which were held in Ballinteer sports centre. They came in second place, and everyone was delighted with the success. Some of the service users from Sandyford went out to support their team. That evening both the Steamers team and Sandyford’s other team, The Sandyford Hotshots, went out to celebrate.
Limerick Lady Heats
We also had some service users taking part in the Limerick Lady competition. The heats were held in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire and we were well represented by the lovely ladies in Sandyford. Alison Barnes went on to represent Sandyford in the finals, and came second. We were all so proud of her.
Art & Photographic Exhibition
We held an Art exhibition on Friday the 29th of July, which display art done solely by the service users themselves. They all worked long and hard for this. There was music and singing by some of the service users as well. A raffle with some great spot prizes and a few tasty nibbles for everyone. It was a great day, and well worth the visit. We also held another open day as part of the No Limits Kite Appeal in September 2011 which got a double page spread in the Gazette Newspaper. View page 1 and page 2 of the article.
Making Sandyford More Accessible
We have also linked up with STEP Enterprize, which we hope will strengthen over the next coming months, so that we can help each other with great work and achievements.
We have also done great work within the local community, following on from our previous achievements, working with local politicians to set up a pedestrian crossing our local advocacy committee worked tirelessly with the county council, to make our foothpaths more accessible for both ourselves and Sandyford in general.
