Therapy
Speech therapy has helped immensely in our child’s goals to be verbal and his communication skills have gone from strength to strength. To hear our child’s voice has been a fantastic achievement.
Therapy is provided by our services teams. The composition of the team depends on the therapy programme that is prepared from the findings and recommendations of an assessment.
Service plans are individual for each child. They set out goals, and the steps needed to achieve them. They are planned and agreed in consultation with the child and family. Therapy can be provided in centres, homes, schools or local community facilities.
Enable Ireland's core therapies are:
- Physiotherapy, which helps with posture management and mobility, by keeping muscles moving and promoting physical development.
- Occupational Therapy, which also helps with postural care and mobility with a view to developing skills for use in everyday life, such as self-care tasks, school and pre-school activities and play and leisure activities.
- Speech and Language Therapy, which helps with developing communication, eating, drinking and swallowing skills.
- Psychology, which assesses the general development, intelligence, strengths and abilities of a child and provides a range of interventions such as behaviour management, counselling, psychotherapy, social and emotional development.
The range of services that Enable Ireland provides depends on the specific contracts in place between Enable Ireland and the HSE and will vary from region to region and we encourage you to find out about specific Enable Ireland services offered in your region.
