Primary School

Like so many six year olds, school is the centre of Danielle’s life. She is now in first class and is doing very well with help from her wonderful teacher and Special Needs Assistant. She is very sociable, has lots of friends and is very enthusiastic about her work.

Our work with children of school-age is aimed at ensuring that their educational, therapeutic and social needs are met in an integrated way. We take on board their changing needs as well as those of the parents when planning and providing service in this life stage. Each child’s individual needs are identified and addressed with the development of an individual service plan.

We work with children continuing on from our early services and with children newly referred to us during  their school years. We will involve you and your child in any decision making around the service, giving choices where possible. We believe it is essential that together with parents we start early to prepare for the future.

Services are available to those children attending mainstream schools as well as those attending schools under the patronage of Enable Ireland.

We can support parents in selecting a school for their child and can visit the school to advise on equipment and special programmes. We can also provide therapy appointments designed to minimise the disruption to the child’s education and hold review meetings with the child’s teacher as well as with parents.

Contact your local Enable Ireland Center to find out about specific services available in your local area.
