Enable Ireland Dun Laoghaire Adult Services

Services for adults with a physical disability from the Dublin area were originally concentrated in our Sandymount centre. In order to facilitate people to access services in their own locality, Enable Ireland Dublin Adult Services established community based services. Opened in June 2000 and based in the Methodist Hall on Northumberland Avenue, Dun Laoghaire was the first of these services.

Enable Ireland have developed this service in collaboration with the Methodist congregation who have welcomed the opportunity for their premises to be utilised in a way that would be of benefit to the wider community.

Who can avail of this service?

  • Service users from the catchment area of Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown currently attending Enable Ireland schools in Sandymount and Bray.
  • Other people with a primary physical disability from this catchment area not currently associated with Enable Ireland.

How to access this service

Referrals to the service can be made through the individual, the individual’s parents or guardians, the HSE, their school, social worker, vocational guidance officer and other such persons. Contact the centre directly for more details.

Programmes/Activities

Activities and programmes are undertaken in consultation with individual service users with reference to their needs and aspirations. Some people avail of the service on a daily basis and follow the structured WHEELS training programme whereas others attend once or twice per week for specific modules.

Person Centred Planning

The Person Centred Planning process is at the core of the service offered by Dublin Adult Services. The PCP process develops a holistic personal profile with the service user setting objectives based on personal aspirations and using a capacity searching approach.

This process assists participants to identify their strengths, needs, abilities and preferences resulting in the formulation of individual person centred plans based upon realistic goals. Each service user is appointed a Key Worker to assist them with this process.

When developing their personal plan the individual service users are actively encouraged to take part in community based modules and supports are put in place to facilitate this.
