Enable Ireland Clare Adult Services

Services Overview

Through a person-centred approach we develop day service programmes and a rehabilitative training programme to enable our service users to achieve maximum choice and inclusion in their local community.

Service users take part in programmes such as work preparation to support people to access open employment through the local FÁS consortium Clare Supported Employment, personal development to support people to live independently and other activities like art, stained glass, and social & recreational programmes. Service users also participate in a wide range of FETAC certified courses such as communications, self advocacy, and computers.

The centre has an active advocacy council which represents all our service users at local and national level, with any issues which may arise. Also we are fortunate to have two representative members on the National Advocacy council.

We liaise with the Irish Wheelchair Association on behalf of our service users where the need for personal assistants exists. Enable Ireland work in partnership with the Brothers of Charity in the FÁS consortium - Clare Supported Employment.

Rehabilitative Training

Steps is an Enable Ireland training programme that aims to introduce participants with the principles of Independent Living and Community Integration and provide them with the opportunity to practise the application of these principles. The Steps programme aims to empower, provide the skills and knowledge to each participant so as to enhance their quality of life and increase their independence in daily living activities. The programme is delivered through centre and community based methods and through the use of an independent living house.

Person-centredness underpins the Steps programme delivery and each participant has a training plan which guides their specific programme. This approach facilitates each participant to take an active role in the learning process and increases their responsibility for their own progress throughout the programme. A positive view of the abilities and potential of each participant is taken, highlighting strengths as well as identifying individual needs.

Participants follow modules which are accredited by recognised certification bodies such as FETAC. At the start of the course participants sample some of the modules on offer e.g. computers, communications, and art, safety in the home and food & cookery. This process offers participant’s choice in what modules they wish to undertake and the skills development path each participant will need to take.

The Steps Training Programme is Rehabilitative Training and is funded by the Mid - West HSE.
