Supported Employment

Links to overview of supported employment placements

I've recently linked in with FÁS to look at employment opportunities. I've gotten support with my money management skills and thanks to good budgeting, I recently bought myself a new laptop and I'm able to go on holidays.

Supported employment opens up job opportunities in mainstream settings for individuals with disabilities. Many service users in Enable Ireland have high support needs and require ongoing assistance in order to perform their jobs. Supported employment provides assistance such as job coaches, transport, assistive technology, specialised job training and individually tailored supervision.

A supported employment placement can vary from working for one hour per week to twenty hours per week, depending on the needs and abilities of each individual. Supported employment allows people to train and pursue a career, have more choices and control in their lives, and to enjoy a feeling of self-worth and accomplishment. Everyone can benefit from this model including employers, employees, co-workers, the community and the economy.
